Houston Arts Alliance announces board of directors, officers and new members

Houston Arts Alliance is pleased to announce their 2011 Board of Directors Officers. Former Board Chair, Fabené Welch, will now serve as the Immediate Past Chairman. Marshal Lightman, Vice President and Regional Controller of Gilbane Building Company, has been named Chairman of the Board. Vice Chairman is John F. Guess, Jr., Mangement Consultant for The Guess Group, Inc., a commercial and residential brokerage firm. Financial Consultant and Senior Manager for Axia Resources, Denise DuBard, will serve as Treasurer, and Marc Melcher, a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch, will serve as Secretary. Both Mr. Lightman and Mr. Guess have served on the Board of Directors since HAA's inception. Ms. DuBard and Mr. Melcher joined the Board in Fiscal Year 2010.

They welcome new board members Jay Jones II, Dan Workman, Shannon Buggs and David Ashley White. Mr. Jones is a philanthropist who has served on over a dozen boards in Houston, many of which are arts related, including the Houston Ballet Foundation, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and Alley Theatre. Mr. Workman is the President of SugarHill Studios, a music producer, a writer for Zenfilm and an adjunct professor at Houston Community College. Shannon Buggs and David Ashley White were appointed to the HAA Board by Mayor Annise Parker. Ms. Buggs is an award-winning journalist and dedicated community volunteer. She is the founder of Meta-Four Houston, an organization created to advance literacy and self-expression among Houston's youth, ages 13 to 19. Mr. White is the Director of the Moores School of Music at University of Houston, where he has worked as a professor of Composition and Music Theory since 1978. Several pieces of his choral and instrumental music have been published in hymnals and released on CD.
