Example of Student Involvement at Bunker Hill Elementary

· Students meet once a month on a Friday afternoon (there is a class time slot for all 5th grade committees to meet)

· Recordkeeping and money collection are double checked for accuracy.  As money is collected from ticket sales, the Treasurers count the money, Teacher liaison counts and school administrative staff counts.  School administrator deposits the money into the school’s bank account and keeps track with separate ledger entries, so that a check can be written to Houston Arts Foundation at the end of the school year.

· Monthly meetings include Junior Achievement Biztown lessons; information about running companies; photos by the historian; student-made posters to promote the project

· In the spring, students in the past have learned about caring for public property, chemistry of bronzes and care for valuable art objects.  A tour of airport art / city art or presentation to another school are possible off-campus activities.

· The second spring activity is attending the ceremony to present the check to the Houston Arts Foundation.
