Experience Public Art in Houston

The Civic Art + Design team works in close partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, the General Service Department, and the Houston Airport System to enhance Houston’s visual landscape through the Civic Art Program. The team also manages public art projects for private clients.

Civic Art is funded by the City of Houston via the percent for art ordinance. The City of Houston Art Collection includes almost 650 works that can be found in over 100 of the City of Houston’s public facilities and parks. These artworks are enjoyed by more than 64 million people per year.

Art at the Avenida

Houston Arts Alliance was contracted by Houston First Corporation to create two monumental sculptural works.

Soaring In The Clouds by Ed Wilson and Wings Over Water by Joe O'Connell and Creative Machines welcome visitors to the Avenida Houston district and the George R. Brown Convention Center.

On view inside the convention center are works by 13 video artists, as well as a finely crafted quilt, which are all a part of the City of Houston Art Collection.

Art at the Airports

The Houston Airport System is fortunate to have one of the largest collections of public art in the state of Texas.

Placed throughout the airport’s terminals and grounds, artworks include everything from sculptures to photographs, and are predominantly by Texas-based artists.
