Cotswold 2000 is a program of streetscape improvements for a 90-block area of
north downtown Houston, including art, landscaping, water features and
the creation of approximately 2,750 new on-street parking spaces.
In Phase I, currently under construction:
Elena Cusi-Wortham sculpted bronze fountain spouts based on tropical
leaves;
Malou Flato designed tilework for a watertable fountain
to accompany her tile benches at Market Square Park; Brad J. Goldberg
worked on the master plan, and designed a fountain, seating and other
water elements; Tim Glover created a decorative grate on a section of
the first test blocks; Leamon Green devised a puzzle-piece
pattern for the Preston Avenue sidewalk near Enron Field; Steve Murphy
designed custom bicycle racks, to be placed over each block of Preston
Avenue; and Toby Topek designed eleven original 10-foot marble
mosaics for the sidewalk on Texas Avenue.

Main Street Square, Houstons downtown central plaza, will boast innovative
architecture and a design built around two light rail stations in the
900 and 1100 blocks of Main Street. Dramatic water fountains, unique landscaping,
shopping, dining and art will transform the location into an active town
square. The car-free space is scheduled for completion by January 2004,
the same time as Metros light rail system.
