Gordon Huether’s commission for the Midwest Patrol Station is comprised of both exterior and interior elements. For the interior of the station he created a digitally altered photo series using 35 historical images printed on aluminum from the Houston Police Department’s archives. These photos are akin to contemporary, colorful paintings and are very relevant to the officers and staff who use the building on a daily basis. A twenty-foot tall sculpture composed of proud, vertical forms at the exterior entry represents the values of the Houston Police Department through the use of the statement Order through Law, Justice with Mercy. The sculpture speaks not only to the purpose of the facility, but also creates a visual dialogue with the architecture by complementing the façade.
